Emily in Paris Netflix Review: Breezy, Binge-Worthy Romcom

Emily in Paris Netflix

Emily in Paris’ fun and humour elements, stylish production design and endearing storyline work as an antidote to stress in these challenging times.

An American marketing specialist lands in Paris for her dream job and has an experience of a lifetime.

Phil Collins’ daughter Lily Collins stars in this lighthearted, breezy romcom about a smart and effervescent young woman in love with the idea of Paris. She speaks no French which is sacrilegious, and the story is about how she warms her way through the French chill and experiences love and life in the city of hearts.

A binge-worthy watch that is so refreshing and charming that you begin to pine for Season 2 the moment Season 1 gets over. There’s no blood or gore or crime or violence, and its lead character is a breath of fresh air. The added bonus is the cinematographic majesty and expanse of the most romantic city in the world. Beautifully shot and well enacted, Emily in Paris is a fun watch.

One minor grouse: the script while being pacy and delightful is riddled with cliches about the French and their way of life, and that adds a predictable and caricaturistic quality to the narrative. Some critics have rightly panned the show for this reason but its fun (I know I am repeating the fun part) and humour elements, stylish production design and endearing storyline work as an antidote to stress in these challenging times.

Can’t wait for Season 2!
