‘Risk hai to ishk hai.’ In the beginning was the Word, and so it goes…I am tempted to go into an hyperbolic overdrive but suffice to say that this miniseries is possibly one of the best OTT series made in India. Scam 1992 is a story of a fallen star, a meteor who tried to reach for the sun and got burnt.
Based on Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal’s painstakingly researched book, it not only goes into the entrails of the 1992 securities scam and lays bare its intricacies but does so in a manner that makes for a riveting drama. While Harshad Mehta, the raging bull, did manipulate ‘the system’ and crossed the line many times, one can’t help empathising with the chawl boy who rose to stratospheric heights only to bite the dust.
Pratik Gandhi is a revelation. And a huge one at that. This Gujarati theatre and film actor is in total control of his act and delivers with a panache that makes art look bigger than life. He has arrived in style on the bigger canvas, and if he plays his cards well, will go places.

Shreya Dhanwanthary as Sucheta also gets into the skin of her character and scripts an outstanding performance of a crusading journalist out to get those who play the system to the detriment of many unsuspecting investors.
National film award winning director Hansal Mehta remains truly on top of the narrative and chisels its rough edges with elan and virtuosity.
And before I go, Pratik Gandhi, take a bow!
Postscript: Pratik will soon be seen in his first Hindi feature film, Ravan Leela. Set to release next month.
