From Jordan Peele’s untitled film to M3GAN 2.0, these are all the upcoming horror movies we’re keeping our eyes peeled for in 2025, 2026.
Horror geeks are sure psyching out in anticipation of the 2025–2026 catalogue, which looks chock full of promising releases from both seasoned and new voices. The genre has always thrived on the wild side, and these upcoming horror films promise to deliver it all. Vintage monster revivals (Frankenstein), cerebral horror (Presence) and a good old-fashioned slasher film (Final Destination: Bloodlines).
Some of the biggest names in horror today are leading the charge. Guillermo del Toro, no stranger to the genre (Pan’s Labyrinth and Crimson Peak), is putting his own spin on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein in 2025. Scott Derrickson, best known for his genre efforts like Sinister and The Black Phone, is returning to his roots with a sequel to the latter. Besides the heavyweights, indie horror too has potential knockouts up its sleeve. Gerard Johnstone, director of M3GAN, assures more nerve-wracking moments from the killer doll and will continue the AI horror trend with M3GAN 2.0. Meanwhile, Jaume Collet-Serra, known for The Shallows and Orphan, is set to make his latest stab at the genre with The Woman in the Yard led by Danielle Deadwyler. Release dates are all subject to change!
Quickly then, here are 17 upcoming horror movies in 2025, 2026:

Upcoming Horror Movies
1. Wolf Man – Jan 17, 2025
Leigh Whannell, who previously directed The Invisible Man and Upgrade, now has his eyes set on the classic Wolf Man tale. The film has been in talks for a very long time and promises a brand-new spin on the iconic creature feature. It will star Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott in lead roles. The plot involves a remote farmhouse where a family faces a terrifying supernatural force and the deadly transformation it entails. Concerns regarding January horror releases are best kept aside for this one.
2. Presence – Jan 24, 2025
A family moves into a suburban house that is haunted by a supernatural entity. The synopsis of the film might make it sound like a snoozefest. It’s going to be anything but, in the hands of Steven Soderbergh. Here’s the spin: the film is shot entirely from the POV of the supernatural entity haunting the family. That aesthetic choice alone might very well be worth the price of admission.
3. Companion – Jan 31, 2025
Starring Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher in lead roles, the film’s plot involves a chain of events that unravel on a weekend trip away at a billionaire’s estate as an idyllic getaway turns into a fight for survival. Drew Hancock’s film has also been described as a sci-fi thriller in the marketing material. Also, it is produced by Zach Cregger, the man behind the much-acclaimed horror film Barbarian (2022).
4. The Monkey – Feb 21, 2025
Up next we have the James Wan produced The Monkey by Oz Perkins, director of titles like The Blackcoat’s Daughter and last year’s critically acclaimed Longlegs. The film is going to be an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story The Monkey into a full-length horror film. The cast includes Theo James, Elijah Wood, and Perkins himself. The plot revolves around a family that encounters a cursed toy, which brings with it death and misfortune.
5. The Woman in the Yard – March 28, 2025
Jaume Collet-Serra, known for his work on films like Orphan and House of Wax is at the helm of another brand-new project from Blumhouse. The film will star Danielle Deadwyler, as a woman who becomes haunted by an eerie, grim reaper-like presence lurking in her yard. Collet-Serra’s penchant for mania and suspense is a perfect fit for this slow-burn thriller, where isolation and fear will, little by little, turn the protagonist’s reality into a living nightmare.
6. Return to Silent Hill – April 11, 2025

Silent Hill is yet another video game that has been made into a movie. While the films weren’t well received by critics, the games have a devoted fan base who love the films as well. Our main character James Sunderland returns to the town of Silent Hill – hence the title – in search of his lost love. He runs into old and new faces that cause him to question his sanity.
7. Final Destination: Bloodlines – May 16, 2025
It’s been 25 years since we got our very first Final Destination film. The franchise is now marking its return with Final Destination: Bloodlines, making it the sixth entry in the iconic series. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, this film will introduce a brand-new cast of characters who will inevitably find themselves caught in Death’s inescapable grip. The film is also rumoured to feature the late and great Tony Todd, reprising his role as the iconic coroner.
8. 28 Years Later – June 20, 2025
The long-anticipated third entry in the franchise is just around the corner. It comes more than two decades after 28 Days Later (2002), the film which single-handedly revived the zombie genre for the masses. Cillian Murphy is returning to the franchise along with Danny Boyle as director and Alex Garland as the screenwriter. The film is all set to deliver yet another dystopian horror adventure when it hits theatres in June.
9. M3GAN 2.0 – June 27, 2025
M3GAN is coming back for more in M3GAN 2.0, with director Gerard Johnstone back at the helm. It was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced after the success of the first film. Allison Williams will also reprise her role as Gemma. If you thought the murderous AI doll was done for, think again. We have an upgraded version on our hands this time around. The sequel promises more of the suspense, horror, and dark humour that made the first film such a phenomenon.
10. The Conjuring: Last Rites – Sep 5, 2025
Since its debut in 2013, the Conjuring universe has become the highest-grossing horror franchise in history, spawning eight films so far. The upcoming instalment, which will follow the next chapter in the lives of Ed and Lorraine Warren, is set to conclude the main series. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will once again reprise their roles as the Warrens, tackling yet another case of paranormal activity. Further plot details are under wraps for now. Michael Chaves is at the helm.
11. Saw 11 – Sep 26, 2025
Following the commercial success of Saw X, which many fans rank higher than the film which started it all, a sequel announcement didn’t take long. Originally supposed to come out in 2024, it was postponed to 2025 due to unforeseen circumstances. The film will be directed by Kevin Greutert, who also directed the previous film, with Tobin Bell set to return as the iconic Jigsaw.
12. The Black Phone 2 – Oct 17, 2025
The unexpected box-office success of The Black Phone (2021), as one might expect, did lead the producers to greenlight a sequel which will arrive just in time for Halloween 2025. It’d be interesting to see where the story leads after the events of that first film. And with Scott Derrickson again in the director’s chair, and Ethan Hawke reprising his role as the Grabber, expectations for the sequel are running high.
13. Frankenstein – Nov 2025
Guillermo del Toro’s take on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is finally coming straight to Netflix later this year. The cast includes the likes of Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, and Jacob Elordi. The film has had both the fans of the classic text and Del Toro filled with anticipation for quite a while. We’ll get a blend of the original text’s gothic elements with del Toro’s trademark visual style, offering a new spin on the Frankenstein mythos.
14. Iron Lung – (TBA, 2025)

Mark Fishbach, also known as Markiplier, is creating his first feature film called Iron Lung. Based on the horror game of the same name released in 2022, Mark will be spearheading the film as director, writer, and star.
The plot hasn’t been revealed yet, but the game is about a convict being sent in a submarine into a blood ocean on a distant planet. The developer David Szymanski is also a writer on the film.
15. Weapons – January 16, 2026
Zach Cregger’s follow-up to his acclaimed film Barbarian (2022) involves the disappearances of several high schoolers in a small town and will star Josh Brolin and Julia Garner in lead roles. If the filmmaker manages to pull off the precise conviction of his previous effort this time around as well, the horror fiends will be in for a great time!
16. They Follow (2026) – TBA
Also in the horror pipeline is the sequel to It Follows (2014), which is arguably one of the best horror films of the century. Not much is known about the production, so it’s safe to assume audiences will have to wait until sometime in 2026 to see the finished product. Writer-director David Robert Mitchell will don both hats this time around as well. If his catalogue up until now, which speaks for itself, is any indication, the film is unlikely to disappoint.
17. The Untitled Jordan Peele Film (Oct 23, 2026) – TBA
Jordan Peele is making another horror film! That’s all we know at this point, but that is enough to get fans excited. With three successful horror films under his belt, each exploring different themes and sub-genres, anticipation is high for what he has in store next. The film was initially set for a Christmas 2024 release but was delayed due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
Conclusion
Some scares are worth preparing for! With an exciting lineup of horror films ahead, the genre looks stronger than ever. Other horror films we’re keeping our eyes peeled for include Ash – Flying Lotus (March 21, 2025) and Chris Stuckmann’s Shelby Oaks (Aug 22, 2025).
